I had an alloy one, it bent at the sight of mud and was useless on rocks.
Go for a steel one
West midlands 4x4 do quite an interesting one, it uses bars instead a plate so doesn't work like a plough when reversing in ruts.
+1 on steel my ally one is as bent as 3.5Efi, and that is seriously bent!!
