Hi all, 3 or 4 years ago the magazines used to be awash with stainless steel fuel tanks, now typing stainless steel fuel tank into google actually comes up with nothing.

Needless to say I need a new 2 hole tank, if I can't get stainless it will have to be a good steel one, does anyone have recent fuel tank experience and know where I can get one that isn't made of tin foil and spit.

My other option is to go and find a vessle welder and take him a pile of plasma cut SS.

Thanks

Why do you want a stainless fuel tank?

Unless you have it totally insulated from the chassis it will rust!

If you have the wherewithall why not make on out of 2mm sheet? Easy to form and easy to weld the seams ... especially if you have either gas or TIG.

I want a stainless steel tank as it is going to last longer than a mild steel tank. As you point out it will still rust, SS and mild steel have a significant potential difference.
However that is assuming it is in contact with bare metal, the chassis has been primed, painted, painted, painted, painted and waxoyled. I also make neoprane washers whenever I joint any two dissimilar metals so tank isolation will be OK.

I can MIG and TIG but being in the middle of a major rebuild I don't want to add days of fabrication time to the project.

Thanks DAZ, unlike other forum members I am accustomed to google and it's all knowing prowess. It happens I have seen and read that site and spoken to them on the phone and know that they are only additional long range fuel tanks and not replacements for your primary tank as they do not have a typical fuel filling system and use a pump to fill the primary tank.

Sorry - you didn't mention any of that

I did say I was looking for a replacement 2 hole tank, this is the term given to a primary fuel tank on a 90 (or 1 hole).
