Hi,
I have a 2.5td 90 with a Fuel Problem...basically she won't fire. Glow Plugs etc are fine.

I've changed the lift pump etc, but when bleeding the system, the fuel only drips out as such...it doesn't "pour"

I think I have narrowed down the problem to being some sort of blockage between the fuel lift pump and tank as when I take the pipe off, which links the filter and lift pump, and turn the engine over, fuel only drips out.

Is there a way of cleaning the bottom of the fuel tank or the pipe?

Does that make sense? :s

Could the poor flow of fuel be caused by something else?

Please note that the engine runs fine after she finally starts up.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Mr RAC (in the B&Q Car Park) man sprayed something down the tube which goes from the air filter and it started up...not sure what it was? I drove it Home, but once I turned it off, it wouldn't start up again.

He informed me it was the Lift Pump and a leaking Fuel Pipe (fed from N/S of Fuel Filter to the front of the Injection Pump)...I've changed said pipe, Lift Pump and Fuel Filter...still no joy...:(

that would have been easy start. sounds like glow plugs.

also dont forget the bleed screw on top of the fuel filter.

Top solonoid playing up ( not fully opening ? - there is another filter in the pump but it can be a pig to remove without damaging it ( I did do a post on here about it , Ill find it in a bit )

Thanks for the fast responses!

He checked my glow plugs and he said they are all getting up to the right temperature.

Hmmm...

Is the fuel meant to just slowly drip out when you turn the engine over? (I removed the pipe from the filter that comes up from the lift pump)

I thought it should pour out?

Thanks :)

DJ B4L - your problem is on a petrol engine, it could be a whole heap of other things like ignition system, plugs etc... Are you getting fuel into the engine? With a diesel that’s you there, add compression and away you go, are you getting a good spark? I would start a new thread for this.

Big P - easy start or start ya bastard or what have you is not best used no, particularly on a diesel - WD40 is better, or a burning news paper in the inlet manifold - that's assuming there continues to be fuel after the engine fires.
