71 K reg more likely to be 2A or 3?

Exactly what i said.

DVLA says date of reg is 72, so I'd imagine a series 3, but could have been stuck on a forecourt for ageses...

does it crunch in 1st and second on the move?
if so its a 2a if its got sincro then a 3

No idea.

It's on private land so I can't get a proper look and has been off the road for 17 years so I doubt it still moves.

I just want it as a fiddling project...

is there a wing air vent on it?
the 3 has 1 i think and most 2a's have a wire grill the 3 has a plastic 1

Does it have a wire grille on it. The grille alone can sell for up to £75 on eBay - crazy but true!

Plastic grille.

Air vent.

Can only see front and the nearside...

Bulkhead is that nice and orange/brown flaky style and bodywork is the green and slimy one...

when i had my 2a the plastic series 3 ones were like rocking horse **** (would have loved 1 for mine

but that was 20+ years ago

Apparently diesel (DVLA)

Now to clear out the garage, get a trailer, and buy it...
