I have recently purchased a 2000(w) 4.6 Range Rover Vogue. The latest problem with it is that it just will not go over 70 miles per hour? it gets up to it no problem but seems to be held back upon reaching it. Its the same when i try to kick down to over take the engine starts to judder for want of a better word and has resulted in a couple of near misses. Can any body please please please give me any sudjestions as to what it could be as im getting close to my whitts end with this car. IT WAS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you got cruise control on your vehicle ?
If so it could have been set to 70 mph .
Its a reasonable enough assumption, so have a look at your owners hand book and take it from there.
It's only a wild guess.

I may be wrong but I think there is some setting on the range rovers where you can limit the speed - I think there was a post on here about it last week

could be it was set by the previous owner?

try looking through last weeks post in this section

the over speed warning dont stop you going faster than the set speed, it just beeps to warn you. at least mine does!
may be worth looking just in case, press the end button/s of the left hand steering stork, its controlled and set by the buttons there where you can set/unset it as required

is it an engine problem, ie it just wont rev or a car problem, being electronicaly held back?
if stationary and you give it some does it rev ok?

i have pressed the res button dont think its the cruise control, it drives fine only happens when quick acceleration ie kick down or as you reach approx 60-70 then engine holds back wont accelerate and miss fires ??
im starting to think this is a major problem

First of all i would like to thank everyone who replied to my question. Its great to know that there are people out there willing to take time to help. However we have tried all of the above but to no avail. It appears that the only 2 options are now contact the very nice man that sold me the car to ask him why he got rid, and then to have our local stealer to have a butchers. So once again may thanks to all!!!!!

New problem fluid leaking in foot well drivers side?
fluid, water/anti freeze probably from "O" rings on the heater matrix pipes, they a weak point and when they get old they leak coolant into drivers side foot well. cheap parts to buy, not easy to replace though, i have never done them so can be of no assistance

Just a quick thank you to all again to helped with my problem it has turned out to be the M.A.F sensor it cost £150.00 to replace and the car now goes like a rocket and does not miss a beat cannot thank you all enough.
Happy Range Rovering to All

Hate saying it, I told you so :D:D:) Glad your sorted

Mark, I had the same symptoms on my 1999 4.6 a couple of years ago, it was the lambda sensors. My independant garage said it had been left too long and had burnt out some injectors, cost about 400 quid then. My one was using LOTS of fuel even though the computer was still reading 18 ish to the gallon. Good luck
