my engine has cut out on me while driving on the motorway, it felt like a little juddery then all power went, i had fuel. the engine turned over without a struggle but it would not fire. maybe fuel filter, pump? anyone any ideas? would be eternally gratefull.

When you turn the ignition on can you hear the pumps running. On yours there is one in the tank and one in the engine bay. As sounds like a pump failed

i will check that, on the motorway it was too noisy to hear anything. thank you

When you turn the ignition to the position before turning it over you should here a low humming for a few seconds as the pump primes.
hiya peeps. right. when i turn the ignition prior to turning over, the pumps hum like a bee;, i did actually turn the key and guess what, the tank started, however, when you rev the enine you can hear the car struggling a bit, as if there is not enough fuel getting through, can one of the filters be clogged? or my injectors? or is there something more sinister going on.
i have let the engine run up to operating temperature, the car then starts to struggle a bit while the engine idles. as soon as i touched the accelerator to rev the engine it died, and it wont start now. HEEEEEEEEELP MEEEEEEEEEEE LOL. (prior to reaching opperating temp, you could rev it quite high and it just felt a little juddery, but didnt cut out)

Did the pump in the tank run, if it has failed then the secondary pump in the engine bay will usually allow it to start but lacks the power to run properly and will also fail fairly quickly as it has to work too hard.
Do you get any warning lights?.
There is also a known problem with the plug that attaches to the pressure switch on the end of the common rail, that could give the symptoms you have
