I put a 4/98 leyland in a 109 , had to fit an overdirve and 4.1 diffs top speed on the limiter was 66mph but would pull 2 ton up hill same speed.
Down side heavy lump, noisy due lack of soundproofing .
Very reliable , went all over europe, sold to a guy to go thru africa, as fitted with all the kit.

Suggest 300tdi best bang for buck as modifying vehicles for unusual engine fitment very expensive if done properly

i put a isuzu 2.8td in a 110 with 35" tyres on,and it went like a bomb.but it wa a bit dead wi the trailer on,but the big tyres might have had sumat t do wi it!my mum had a range rover 5 door classic wi a GMC 6.2 V8 diesel in and that wa **** hot,ya dint need 1st gear and it pulled like a train wit trailer on.mi dad had an old 109 wi a BMC 3.8 in,think it wa wot wa fitted in the old threpny bit commers, and that pulled quite well(but not as gud as a perkins 4.236)and did about 55/60 in top wi overdrive in.i'd go fa 4.236 turbo but make sure its out of a commercial because ther higher revin than a plant or agri spec engine.
