Chaps and chapettes,
I have a 300Tdi fitted from a Disco, and a 4 bolt steering box.....
There is little to no power assistance when the vehicle is warm......from cold there is assistance, not 100% but a good 75% assistance compared with the girlfriends 300Tdi 110....But once warm and you are standing still, the system groans and there is almost no assistance, just noise! While driving and even at low speeds, the steering is fine with little groans no and then, and the steering returns to central spot on.
The reservoir is full and no bubbles, I have bled the system through with fresh fluid which runs clear and with gusto from the bleed nipple. Engine speed makes no difference to either the volume, frequency or amount of groan.
Parking is fun with no assistance, and people round our way don't leave you much room at all for manoeuvre!
Been through the RAVE fault finding list, and it points to needing the pressure gauge and tap adaptor to be fitted to see if it is the pump or the box....
Would you chaps have any clues on which it would be without the need for the gauge and adaptor etc?
Loathed to pay out for the expensive box when it turns out to be the much cheaper pump, and loathed to pay for a pump if I need to pay the extortionate amount for a box!
Any thoughts and opine?
