1998 4.6 runs perfect no loss of fluid but sit in a traffic jam a short time and she boils, had a new water pump recently, any ideas please its driving me mad

If its a p38 then your viscous fun is not working, you should be able to here it they roar when they are working.

Its a p38 electric fan and thats cutting in ok, yes the thermostat was replaced and the rad isnt that old, think ill have the thermostat out and check it before anything else

P38s main cooling fan is driven off the water pump boss via a viscous clutch. If you're talking about an electric fan you're probably looking at the 2x aircon fans mounted behind the grille. These also come on as a backup if engine overheats, but are not efficient enough to use as sole source of cooling air.

So, viscous replaced to try to hide an underlying issue then.
Why do people bugger about with what works well if you maintain it properly?

So Wazz, you'd keep your wooden axle with pig fat lubrication even if a superior alternative came along?

There is no maintenance on a VC as you well know, only rolled up newspapers committing Hari Kari in pursuit of a place in confetti heaven.:D

Oi, what's wrong with wooden axles with pig fat grease, us series owners do ok with them.

No, I wouldn't,but who says a kenlowe fan is superior to the factory fitted viscous fan.
On an engine that is notoriously sensitive to overheating, given the choice of driving the cooling fan with a 50watt electric motor or a 150kw ICE, I know what my preference would be.
You have to ask why a kenlowe fan was fitted?
