well jusdt finished replacing the duff alternator and I also chamgd the top hose that feeds it aswell, thought I would post a couple of tips if anyone is thinking of doing this job.

Remove viscous fan and cover first of all, unclip top hose from radiator and unclip both ends from the alternator and left hand side at he bottom , disconnect battery and unclip the terminal from the alternator and unbolt the large cable too the top right of the alterbator presuming earth cable.

Using a 13mm socket remove the bolts holding the serpentine belt tensioner in place, remove the black cover from the front of the top tentioner pully and using a T50 torch bit unscrew and remove, nest there are 6 10mm bolt around the edge of the alternator undo all and remove, then you can pull out the alternator from the water jacket, clean front edge up and fit a new o ring too the alternator, mine was supplied with a new one I the kit but make sure you have it before you take of the old alternator, simples refit in reverse order, top tip have plenty of clean tubs on hand for the exspensive coolant that comes out when pipes removed I cleaned mine through some linen and reused as it was only a month old and at £80 a time too fill the system up I saved as much as I could.

Hope this was of help tried too keep it as simple as possible Rave has the complete break down if your not too sure not a hard job took me 3 hrs in total and that's waiting for the coolant too drain off :)

It is nice, i owned a Mk3 cortina 1300 when i was 15 ! me and my mate went halves on an MOT failure and drove it around the local farms and tracks around where we live, well mostly tracks.

I have a k reg 2 door MK 1 escort shell which is completely buried in bramble bushes but toying with the idea of getting my brother to restore for me, before it's too late, as that's his profession. i could have rebuilt it 3 times over with the money i have spent on my range and the the thing is the Mk1 would be worth a whole lot more whereas the range is worth a whole lot less...........

My dad had a brand new T reg Cortina estate, i even remember the registration, as a company car when i was a kid and 6 of us used to go on holiday in it, with me and my little brother in the boot with all the luggage. I owned a MK3 escort RS turbo proper replica with all the proper ford bits and a 16OO CVH Kent cam with twin choke webber, thinking about it we had dozens of Mk1 or Mk2 escorts and Cortinas or sierras in my family so how the hell did i end up with a bloody range rover ??

Shall we jump ship ?

haha check out oldschool ford furom if you ever want too sell the shell let me know this is how I found mine on a farm been sat since 1984CORTINA 134.jpg

I wish i had a bigger garage as there is no way of fitting anything in it and working on it. i have had my mk1 since 1988 so probably not going to part with it any time soon, it would take a year to get through the brambles

Get the mk1 escort out and restored they are worth a lot of money now,
iam getting my mk1 cortina back on the road for a event in june.

The shell needs a lot of work, the local kids jumped all over the roof and broke the glass, my mate borrowed the 1600 xflow engine so i would 'have' to put in a cosworth 205 block, i have considered selling the range to finance it.
Good thing is all the panels are readily available again

escort panels are definitly easyer to get then cortina and cheeper, rear wing or mine is £1200:eek: glad i dont need one.
