I have a friend who's replacing the rad on my car and he noticed significant leaking around the thermostat. He's taken a look and found this.... it looks like someone's attempted to drill it a few times. Any idea why?!

Obviously it's going to need replaced!

To prevent airlocks.

Some thermostats have a hole with a jiggle pin to allow a little bit of flow to help stop airlocks, Maybe someone was having overheating problems and thought it might help?? Pretty shoddy attempt though!!!

EDIT: Damn, Wammers beat me to it again!!!!!
