300tdi with 180,000 miles

Hi! i have been offered a 300dti with 180,000 miles on the clock. the lad offering it says it has been regular serviced by land rover, and 9 months mot. also had a new boot floor welded in.
im pretty new to the land rover and 180,000 miles seems quite high. but i have seen these with 250,00+ on them. is the milage ok on these engines, and whats to look out for apart from the rust issues and smoke? cheers!

Rust is main thing as long as engine is ok pulls well and doesn't smoke too much. then 180k int a problem check footwells wheel arches, sills, rear body crossmember, and body mounts.

I bought a very high milage Disco, not new to Discovery's as this is my 4th, the chap told me he'd rebuilt the engine. The engine gave up the ghost a month later towing the caravan, so insist on seeing proof of any work done and don't like I did pay cash.

Depends on the year and price. but the miles arnt too high

Hi. Mine is 1995 Defender 110 TDI, current milage 165,000. burns no oil and still pulls like a train. Was owned by forestry Comission for first 5 years. Has always had oil and filter changes done on the button. This, I beleive is the key to long life. Also try to pre empt any problems by fixing before things get too bad. You get an ear for how your Landie should sound, anything untoward, investigate and rectify.
180,000 miles is nothing on a well maintained 300 TDI. Expect 250,000+ before any major surgery required.
Oh yes one final word of advise, budget for a timing belt change if there is no record of it being done recently. Failure of this componant will trash the engine.
That aside, I think the 300 TDI ranks as one of the best oil burners Land Rover ever made.

Got a 94 300tdi with 195,000 on the clock. Recent cam belt change and clutch. Doesn't feel any different to my dads old 200tdi which only had 120k! Each engine is different and it all depends on how they've been treated through there life. Regular service and parts when required and it will just keep on going.
