hello, there.

i am proud owner of a 87 defender 110.
and have a problem with the waterpump.
as budget is tight these days(dentist!), i'd like to see if i can fix it myself.
the original engine blew up(2.5d)and has a 300tdi fitted.
there is a grinding noise, and i assume the bearing has failed.
thing that raises most quiestions is that the engine doesnt warm up as much as usual!?
i found a thread on this site about how to replace a waterpump on a 300tdi disco, and wonder wether this is the same engine?

many thanks, menno

Yes it is the same engine - the pump is less than 20 quid.

With the belt off does the pully rock about?

Job is easy, most difficult bit will be getting the old gasket off the face of the pump block on the engine.

You need to take the pulley off the pump AND the power steering pump, undo the 3 bolts on these pulleys BEFORE you take the serpintine belt off, it will hold them still.

The rest is common sense - you will see what else needs to come out to get at it.
