Forgive me if this is has been said before, but I am new to the forum.

I currently have a 1998 300tdi 110 which I have owned for the past 8 years and which is now in need of serious refurbishment ie new doors (all 5 rotting from top as well as bottom), new chassis, electrics, new interior etc. I am in two minds about whether to rebuild it on a galvanised chassis or to totally change car and purchase a td5 or tdci and save myself the hassle.
One concern is whether our UK government is likely to change the road tax for these older vehicles and price them off the road, and another is whether it is feasible to do diy maintenance on the td5 or tdci.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes it has been said before, do a search. Save yourself the money, do a chassis change and stick with the 300tdi. It'll be worth quite a bit in the future

If your talking about routine maintenance , then the td5 and puma are fine and they are much better engines to drive with than the 300.

If something major goes wrong the the 200/300 is a much better bet though.

If you've got the time, space, money and knowhow rebuild your old 300.
Will last you for many years to come and if you do have to sell it it'd be worth a few quid with being on a galv chassis.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Looks like I'll be contacting Richards for a new chassis. Happy New Year.
