First time adjusting tappets, and I find that the last one to adjust looks like it has punched through the cap. The gap was a long way out, so what should I do?

I will buy new caps, but should I adjust it anyway for now??

Or leave well alone for now??

remove worn cap and adjust as normal caps arent vital, if you strip old high mileage engines you often find valve has mushroomed (noticeable when you try to pull valve through guide) and rocker contact surface has worn , caps help prevent that, a few weeks or longer without wont hurt so

cheers - I left the ring in place on number 1, adjusted it as per manual, but I suspect the other caps are not good too - had a heck of a job getting the feelers in.

Tappets are on my "things to do list". Is there a good tutorial?
if you youtube it , there are a few. Easier with angled feeler gauges,

Jack up a front wheel, pop it in 5th, and then you can see the rockers go up and down all by yourself, and it makes the job quicker.

As its MOT time saturday, I paid a mechanic to replace all 8 caps today, and set the gaps. as I don' have time... £40, and she is purring :)
