Hi All,

I thought i had previously found a post about a strange sqeeking on a 300tdi, but i can't find it now.

The sqeeking happens only whilst driving over 10mph and under 40mph and whilst it is in gear. It doesn't happen when coasting. It is slowly getting worse (Louder and more often). Its difficult to describe the sound as it doesn't sound like a normal belt sqeeking. I'm going to try and upload a video to show exactly what it sounds like.

Anyway, i am stumped as to what it is?! Somebody suggested that it is the brake pads low and it metal on metal and somebody else suggested that it is a belt. I personally think it sounds like some sort of bearing issue.

I realise from this that it could be a problem with anything under the bonnet, but this is my first landy and was hoping that it might be a common issue.

Any ideas?

Will try and get the video uploaded soon.

Thanks,
Lazzer

I could be a wheel bearing or a UJ in a prop shaft.

Both are easily checked. Jack up each wheel and hold at top and bottom and see if there is any movement. For UJ, chock wheels and release the handbrake. Try and move the prop from side to side at each end inline with the UJ cross pieces. You are looking or feeling for any movement.

If the UJ is the problem and found early enough their life can be extended by greasing them. You will need a grease gun that has a noozle that fit onto the nipple in each UJ.

Thanks guys, haven't checked any of these things.

Going to fit some new brake pads next week, so will have a look at checking these bits. :)
