Afternoon all hope you had a good Christmas!

I got a slight problem with my 300tdi Disco, on cold start it smokes like hell (Only just moved house and very embarrising when I fill up the cul-de-sac with more smoke than a very large bonfire every morning!!:eek::eek:) and its very lumpy, almost like its on 3 pots? But when shes warmed up theres no smoke at all, and drives fine, certainly no drop in power and no change to fuel consumtion.

Im told this could be a dripping/knackered injector as its at its worsed when left over night or all day in the carpark at work. anyone else had any similar troubles?

All the best for the new year! SFB

Over-fueling normally gives loads of black smoke just like if the air filter was blocked, or injectors were fooked but remains hot or cold.

In your case I bet its white smoke, and in this case fokal compression, timing out, "retarded", whats happening is it cant burn the fuel and hence the smoke, if its missing like fook aswel it means a cylinder cant burn the fuel and wont run. If the timings retarded it gets delivered too late and again it wont get time to burn it.

once it gets hot it makes it easier for the fuel to ignite and it gets better but odds on the power is down.

had similar on my 200 veg oil (or other flamables :biggrin1:) had cloged injector. feel ex manifold as it warms up, cold one prob need injector pulling and tip/nozel cleaning

I tend to agree with david451. I had an almost identical problem about 12 months ago and it turned out that it was my timing belt. It had been fitted by some f****r in a stetson and he had fitted a non LR part in place of the idler pulley and as a result my belt had slipped 2 teeth. I was very close to disaster so if your not sure how long ago it is since your belt had attention it could be worth a check!!

Cheers,
When I bought my disco it had a knakcerkered motor in it, so when I changed it over for a gooden I did the cam belt ( genuine LR KIT including btm pulley) so should be ok, but I will check it again as a matter of course. I think Im going to go down the new injector line anyway as the engine has been to the moon and back so there prob not in the best of condition? dont suppose any of you chaps have got any spare ones kicking around av you?

Yeah I reckon you could be right, Its a sort of white/hint of blue smoke, stinks of Diesel/Chips, so pretty certain its fuel not oil (rings) thats the problem, and yeah it does feel a little sluggish.

Now for the Silly question....... As Im looking at the belt assembly from the front of the car, which way do you turn the pump to advance it??

I may have 4 injectors somewhere. Sorry to be vague, but just prior to Xmas I'd had a lot of work done to my house and had packed a load of stuff into boxes including my Landy spares. They came off a 95 300Tdi that was running, but has since been dismantled to a degree. From what I can remember I did wrap them in oily rags so should still be ok, but do register the fact they are not new. If I can locate them I'll get back to you.

Thanks for the offer Toad, but Ive ordered a recon set from Paddocks, my engine has done around 170k so thought it'd be best to replace all of them with a fresh set, Hopefully there be here soon ish and solves my problems, thats if the delievery man can get to my village! Lol!! Hope your not to sonwed in where your to?

Thats fine mate. The ones I have are off a motor that had covered 150k so you are no doubt better off with the recon ones.

We have just a bit of snow here for a change, but what we do have has frozen so Ice is our prob. However we are having lovely sunny days here with virtually no wind which is unusual as well. We are normally in hurricane force winds and blizzards at this time of year.

I have this problem, finally i found someone with the same issue. I guess I’ll get some new injectors also from somewhere at a reasonable price any ideas? Can you adjust the timing on a diesel 300tdi? LR told me to book it in for “tuning” whatever that is.

I havent yet sorted mine, I bought and fitted new injectors, made no real difference? I'm going to set all my pump timing back to standard and then see what its like then, Im thinking it could be Valve stem oil seals? Im hoping I havenet knackerd a ring on one of the pistons?? I did suck up a fair bit of Salisbury plane water back along which knackered the turbo? Let me know how you get on!

Mmm
I’m not sure what it can do to check, where did u get your injectors from? Looking for a place to get good parts at a reasonable price

The saga continues, following a number of cars today in Fmbro I overtook a police man on a push bike only to be forced to slow down I realised the rozza was somewhat ****ed at me due to the smoke covering him, so I sped up slightly and noticed the smoke cleared. To test the theory I slowed back down and smoked the rozza out again.

I don’t know what was better finding out that 2000rpm in any gear creates smoke, or ****ing off a old bill on a push bike, who couldn’t keep up?

Thanks for the link to padocks

hi mate i had the white smoke when i started up i did new injectors glow plugs etc etc and nothing worked i then used this [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWK-z-J13ko&NR=1"]YouTube- land rover tools 200tdi and 300tdi Bosch VE pump timing with the timing cover case intact[/nomedia] and it was very easy to do and now i no longer have smoke and the power is back up too as long as you set TOP DEAD CENTRE it is really easy hope this helps:)
