I should,nt think so as I recently have done the same job on another members disco 1. I would check the clutch ,in fact change it whilst the engine is out.

Sounds like a head gasket failure, water into the bores, blew the piston 'cos water don't compress .. unlikely the gearbox will have suffered too much if you used the clutch quickly enough! If you let it skid to a halt then there is a distinct possibility of some damage, but they are reasonably robust.

Only way anyone can tell you what to do is by stripping it down and having a looksee .. no-one's psychic! (Psychotic maybe, but psychic, no)

that'd have to be one hell of a head gasket failure to get enough water into the cylinder to cause hydraulic lock.

Yup, but he did say he lost all water and stopped dead ... if most, or even some, of that water got into the bore, and it doesn't need a lot at speed, then catastrophic failure happens.

Do you have the code to disarm the imobiliser via the door lock and key?

i have the secruity code but no way of entering it at all

From 1996/97 300 Tdi Discovery Owners Manual

Locks and Alarm.

Engine Immobilisation Override (entering the emergency key access code)
If the handset is lost or fails to operate, the engine can be re-mobilised by using the key to enter a unique four digit emergency key access code. The code is recorded on the Security Information Card and is entered as follows:

IMPORTANT: ENSURE each key movement is carried out with care and precision and turned through the full extent of its travel.
After turning the key to either the lock or unlock positions, make sure it is FULLY returned to the centre (vertical) position.
If a digit is entered incorrectly, the WHOLE code can be cancelled by returning to operation ‘1’ and starting again.

  • Using the key. Turn the drivers door lock clockwise to the LOCK position and hold in this position for at least 5 seconds. Then return the key to the centre position. It is now possible to enter the separate numerical values of the four digits that make up the emergency key access code.

  • Enter the first digit of the code. If the first digit is 4, turn the key (anti-clockwise) to the UNLOCK position 4 times. Ensure the key is returned fully to the centre position after each turn of the key.

  • Enter the second digit of the code. If the second digit is 3, turn the key to the LOCK position 3 times. Remember the key must be fully returned to the centre position after each turn of the key.

  • Enter the third digit of the code. If the third digit is 2, turn the key to the UNLOCK position twice, ensuring that the key is fully returned to the centre position after each turn of the key.

  • Enter the Fourth digit of the code. If the fourth digit is 1 turn the key to the LOCK position once. Ensure the key is fully returned to the centre position after the key has been turned.

  • FINALLY, turn the key to the UNLOCK position once more to disarm the alarm and re-mobilise the engine. If the code has been entered successfully, the anti-theft alarm indicator light on the instrument panel will extinguish and the engine can be started.

If an incorrect code has been entered the sounder will bleep twice and the anti-theft alarm indicator light will continue to flash. In this case, return to ‘1’ and re-enter the code.

After three failed entry attempts, the security system invokes a delay period of thirty minutes during which the system will not accept any further attempts to enter a code.

NOTE: Once the engine immobiliser has been deactivated by entering the emergency key access code, it will remain inactive until a handset is used to lock the vehicle.

I may be being stupid! But surely if the immobiliser worked before it should work now??? Has it just got a cut off solenoid at the back of the pump? Has it got 12v there? Did you use the original pump? I've replaced one of the spider immobilisers recently and it was a doddle. Easy to bypass too!

-right now well it starts when you jump it fropm starter and injector pump runs on idle but when you touch throttle nothing happens no reving no nothing also still doesnt start with key so im stumped any help would be nice ot even if some one came over and hekped sort it ou bit of money in it for whoever helps etc etc

Sounds like immobiliser if jumping from the starter works, have you got cable or electronic throttle as if its electronic that'd explain nothing from throttle. Either that or stop solenoid just letting enough juice past for it to tick over, and the immobiliser is keeping it (almost) shut as well?

as far as i know its a cable direct from padel but i am 30 miles from my landy and i cant do that imobilser code entry on drivers door but im told its been tried by my partner but i would of thought it would of worked so i have to try my self at the weekend but that means another week without car when i need it running asoon as possiple
