Out laning and my disco started to overheat, refilled with water a few times then found a pinhole in a hose, cut it back and refilled then started knocking from timing case, got so far home then boiled it on a hill, steam everywhere.
Got it towed home and found knocking to be tensioner totally collasped.



had slipped 3 teeth on camshaft pulley and on on crank.
Fitted new timing kit and started it up, engine sounded ok but then realised it was kicking out loads of smoke from the exhaust!!


Could I have cracked the head or knackered the piston rings? or could it be turbo? I took of pipe from intercooler to intake and theres not significant oil. Could oil be getting from turbo hot side straight into exhaust? there's some play in turbine but not totally shagged.
What's most likely? what should I check first?
