in november i had replaced the whole engine in my disco after chasing the over heating and water blasting back out the expansion tank problems that seem to plague 300s,i had done the head gasket, water pump, etc and it happened again miles from home,so i drove it from peterbourogh to telford and swapped the engine,i drove the couple of mile to land rover dealers intelford and lo and behold it started to get hot,i got a new rad there and then and they lent me the tools to swap it there and then(great service at roean in telford by the way!)ive done about 2000mile since then with not a murmer,THEN!...2 nites ago ,went to warrington and as i got almost home SAME B*****D thing!!!!.so in around 3 to 4 month ive done a head gasket head skim etc engine swap and new rad plus pump stat etc,if i keep it below 80degrees its ok(i fitted a digital temp gauge)it seems that it happens after the stat opens(am i right in thinkng its about 82 degees?),i dont think ive cooked it so what next?any ideas?HELP!!!!:doh::doh:

didn't someone mention a non return valve near header tank, other than that it strikes of localised boiling -water pump or blocked rad normally.

have you had rad tested or swapped it

its got a brand spanker rad ill check that valve in the A.M. if its as simple as that little thing ill curl up and die,its had me almost pulling my last few preious hairs out!!!

altough i cant help with the overheating problems as i know nothing about diesels i have to agree with you views on Roean in telford, they always have excellent service and have even given me a discount for no aparent reason :) and a free spare wheel cover

if you just wander in there and ask for a price you can come out with a pocket full of free goodies (junk) as their counter is littered with free place mats, pens, key rings, stickers, mouse mats, sweets :)

i live quite near them and the amount of free advertising they get from those wheelcovers is unreal, there's blinking zillions of em around

my head is banging, hang on a minute
check 9 is okay, but is big enough that nothing should cause problems.
when hot and rev'd 11 should flow
check 12 is not valved or blocked

if you link out radiator to header direct and substitute 11 for a longer hose so you can take off header tank cap and stick it in top
(same as fuel injection/oil hose at motor factors, sold per metre 6 or 8mm at a guess)
reving it and as it heats up should have flow-if it does not seem controlled or zero flow=likely issue
