I have recently been offered a 300tdi engine, with the intention of fitting it into my 90. The engine does not include:

Radiator
Intercooler
misc pipes
injector pump

But the price he's asking is £250. Background information: It was from an auto Discovery, got 80,000 miles on the clock. Guaranteed runner (apparently). Should have all other ancillaries.

I was planning on putting a new engine in my petrol 90 and I'm aware of the welding and down-pipe issues. Is what's left on the engine worth buying at £250

Also, I'm note sure on whether you can put a non-EDC pump onto a previously EDC engine. He claims this is straight forward and does not involve changing the injectors? (to clarify, it's not confirmed as previously EDC or non-EDC atm as he can't remember off hand)

I'm aware that the total cost of putting a new engine in is high and I'm open to suggestions or alternatives. Price is a concern but it's not fixed and I will spend more if need be.

Thanks
(Apologies if this is in the wrong place, I wasn't sure if it fit into 'Engines' or misc)

Well, if it helps you at all,I have a standard intercooler from my 110 300Tdi which you can have for nowt. That might make the project more appealing.

if it has a wire coming froim no4 injector its edc . there is no prob fitting edc engine with non edc pump . they are a lot noisier than a petrol !!

Nerdos: Thanks for the offer. That would save me ~£20. I'll let you know if/when I decide to buy the engine :)

tacr2man: Is it just the injector + pump that vary between EDC and non-EDC? If it's as simple as replacing one injector and getting a non-EDC pump then it's a lot easier than I was expecting.

I've read and heard that putting in a 200TDI is a lot easier then a 300. The appeal of the 300 is that it's a more modern engine (and this one has low mileage).

What did you do about the downpipe COA?

I am no expert on the differences between a 200 and 300 TDI, but my 200 tdi was such a huge step up from the petrol. If a 200 is easier to fit than a 300 then I would suggest you seriously consider it. They do come up often on eBay and on here so I woudl wait. If you want to come and have a try of my 90 with a TDI fitted then come over to Cheltenham and give it a spin to see if its worth it!!

cost wise would it not be better to to buy a complete disco as a donnor and then you`ve got everything you need.
Still get the engine though cos its always handy for spares or a donnor with knackered engine?

I've been looking for a donor disco but they're not as common as i thought.

So what's the consensus on the 300TDI? worth it or not? At £250 it seems like a steal.

Anyone got a 200TDI they're selling? :D

Really?
I just paid 500 notes for a 300tdi disco complete, in Gloucester as it happens :D

If you can source an injector pump, then that's probably a decent price for it if you don't want to go down the buying a donor route
