Good afternoon all.

So in January i will be putting my 300tdi 110 onto a galvanised chassis and will all so be overhauling much of the engine and running gear.

I was wondering about having the injector pump reconditioned as it now has 230k on it but i have not herd many people having them reconditioned.

Is this because they last for ever or do the have a average mile life span?

Cheers Landy Lee

Interesting question that.
Mines on 230k but it started leaking around 20k ago.
Consider having it resealed only maybe?

not TDI, but I've had expreince with other CAV and Bosch pumps at high mileages. The CAV pump needed a re-seal - they had gone hard and it was leaking, I'd certainly be looking at that, its not mileage dependent, more age. I had a Bosch pump start to go at 225k - this was the in-line pump (my favourite) but the return springs weaken and they rattle when cold. The Merc was designed for 400,000kms which is around 250k miles so there is an argument that some parts my be getting close to overhaul.

At that mileage I would certainly have the pump checked over, new seals and a throttle shaft then re-calibrated as a minimum, if you intend to keep the 110
Personally I would entrust the work to a long established specialist.
I used to work in the fuel injection game years ago and have seen toooooo many horrors after untrained bodgers interfered with pumps.
