300tdi, found the leak, how to fix?

Apart from the sunroofs, water finds it's way into the drivers footwell seats and carpets out and I find where it's coming from.

It comes up through the plug that covers the body mount so I'll replace the plug and it also comes in through the seam thats hidden by the kick panel. It's not a big hole, couldn't even see it, I only know it comes through there because I could see it seep through.

So, how do I fix this bit on the seam?

from looking at you have 2 options to "cure" the leak.
1) remove the outer wing and remove all seam sealer etc and weld the seam up then reapply seam sealer/underseal
2) apply copious amounts of seam sealer to both sides of the seam in the hope that it seals it - obviously this is the quick fix if you dont have access to welding equipment!

Hmmm, thank you, I just got a welder, need a gas bottle yet and never welded before..

So, remove the wing for both jobs I take it?

Having just had another look at your photo I would be tempted just to clean the seam sealer off around the seams on the inside and make sure it is nice and dry and apply fresh seam sealer.

or ya could clean the area and apply some Glass Fibre matting and resin or even just the resin if the hole is less than a couple of mm in size.

Good ideas, yeah the hole is tiny, or at least the hole in the seam sealer is, hopefully when I scrape it off it will also be a small hole in the metal

I have just welded my brothers on in almost the same place the hole turned out to be around 3"x5" after a bit of digging about lol,
but once its done it done

last week i had to repair a repair i had bodged about 18 months ago. i started around 6.30pm expecting to be home for around 9.30pm.

when i bodged it first time i was young and stupid, and i thought that i could realistically get away with seam sealer and tin foil.

so after a bit of digging i had to replace 25% of the footwell.

oh the lulz we had when we realised we wouldnt be leaving the workshop until the next morning

Behind that panel I bet your have about 5 tons of muck.

I had to weld on an entire bottom section there.

The muck holds the water and it seeps through, clean the muck out, clean the panel up and reapply seam sealer then coat with, as Red says, resin. Seals it all up and then it doesn't matter if the water gathers again it's protected.
