Hi, this is a bit of a weird one. When I change down a gear, say from 4th to 3rd there is a large forward rocking movement as if I have something heavy in the back that suddenly moves forwards in the vehicle. Imagine the movement of a slide hammer, on a larger scale:doh:.

Could it be a gearbox mount, rear prop (changed the front one)

Appreciate any help
Cheers

Mine is the same, I called it a kangaroo effect on another post, seems to be the norm and you let your driving style adjust to it, I'm managing to steady it up now, more gas, change up a gear etc, just play about and it's perfectly liveable with.
I've just had new rear shock bushes fitted and I think that has helped a small bit too?
Probably no help but I hope it is.
Cheers

It called transmission shunt, caused by an acumulation of wear in the many many parts that join engine to wheels. My disco does it but now i have adjusted my driving style to cater for it and its now just a quirk.

Speed bumps are most irritating and the best way to deal with them is to make sure that accelerate slightly as the vehicle goes over the top, this keeps the driv-line under tension and the rocking disappears.

My 300tdi does the same thing you have to keep the power on and not let off too sharply or you get the rocking motion, I just adapted the way I drive by using the clutch gently and accelerator gently to avoid sharp power decrease, but I have to drive carefullly anyway as 2nd gear only goes in if you are slow and steady same for 3rd and 5th down to 4th.
