Currently I have a 110 defender with a 2.5 n/a diesel engine ex military.
What I would like to know is does the 300tdi ex disco fit straight into the 110 with out mods? assuming that both are manual gear box.

What advice do you have?

Thanks guys!!! Lots of good info.

I've searched and searched the Internet. Lots of people describing how to strap a 300tdi or 200tdi in to the ex mod 2.5 na. Thing is, they all presume you have a LT77. I have been lucky and ended up with a R380 with short bellhousing.

But correct me if I'm wrong. Wouldn't it be better for me to get a standard R380 (half the price of the short one on Ashcroft) then just bolt the 300tdi to that. Only drama then is sourcing a good 300tdi and ancillarys. Welding mounts on. And changeing transfer box to 1.4 from 1.6. ??

I've got some googleing to do. A garage quoted me 6000 for doing everything I just described. At that price I'm tempted just to give it a go myself and ask the REME guys for a hand.

Don't go to a 1.6 transfer, either stick at 1.4 or depending on what your doing with it and what tyres your gonna have go 1.2 like I have in my 90, like I say the tyres make a huge difference and if you end up with a range rover r380 and you end up with a high 5th gear your gearing might be too high, something you'll have to think about, just dont go to a 1.6!

Yer definitely 1.4 for me. I've been looking at discoverys to use as donors. I'd probably get the transfer box and R380 from Ashcroft though and send them back both vehicles transmissions to try get some more £££ back.

I'm on page 3 of your walk through Marmaduke. Great stuff thanks!
