Hello fellow landy owner, I have been searching for this online, but I couldn't find the answer

Defender 110 300tdi that I'm about to purchase has initial S on the engine code: S16L*******

Does anyone know what the initial S supposed to mean?

S = Stolen?

:(:(

Is the S in the same font as the 16L******?
If it is different it may have been added to indicate some form of repair.

letter and number are consistent

I think that your engine has been reconditioned.
The original number appears to have been removed with a router and then re-etched, Normally Tdi numbers are stamped /etched into the rough cast surface of the engine block, yours has a machined slot.
I would suggest that the extra S is to indicate that it has been reconditioned.
