My 110s gearbox went kaput the other day and although I want to either buy all the bits plus the uprated support bearings for it to rebuild it and also uprate the transfer box or get a recon box with it done straight from Ashcroft, I could do without the expense just at the moment

So...

I already have a 300tdi disco box that I'm not using that has only a few thousand miles done on it but I've no use for it as using the engine with an LT77 in my offroader.

Am I right in thinking I can make up the adapter for the selector (have a lathe myself), swap the top housing and I assume swap the bell-housing over from the Defender TD5 box and it'll fit for me?

TIA :)

300 tdi box unless a later k suffix replacement ,wont take larger bearings on front input shaft or rear of layshaft though i wouldnt worry about that as they dont really solve issues that box has is lubrication becomes low or contaminated ,

It would be the gearbox thats coming out of the 110 that I would be rebuilding in any case. Oil was changed three times in the last 15000 miles with me (I found what appeared to be EP90 in it when I first got it and gave it a full service so that wouldn't have done it any favours if it was indeed EP90)

Might have a Defender box sourced now though so won't have to do any messing.

The 300tdi gearbox I have was a recon one from Ashcroft in around 2003/2004 so probably is one of the later ones. Will check anyway as depending on what the one is like coming out of the 110, it might be better to swap over the selectors and other bits and new bearings into that one!

apart from top the only parts that difference between defender and disco are selector shaft and selector yoke everything else is the same including selector fork,td5 input shaft wont fit a 300 tdi box unless is k suffix on , ep90 would harm baulk rings
