300tdi disco not starting

I recently had an mot failure on my 1998 300tdi disco the usual tin rot which has been sorted I may add that the fuel tank had to be removed to weld the rear x member, then a fuel leak at the injection pump leaking at the body which again has been fixed, only thing is when I tried to start the engine initially it was over reving so stopped and re-adjusted spindle to throttle arm still the same tried adjusting the lever at the side (egr) but egr not fitted, then the next time I tried to start it it was a bit better but then it died and I haven't been able to start it since. As the tank was remove I thought it may need bleeding but the fuel filter is full of diesel could I have mixed up the pipe connections at the tank? Which one is. The leak back pipe, large or small? Could it be a problem with the injector pump? Also tried the lift pump but doesn't seem to be building pressure. Any thoughts as to why not starting? Thanks

It could possibly be a problem with the fuel stop solenoid at the rear of the injector pump. Check and clean the connector, you should hear it click when you turn the key to the ignition live position with the bonnet open . Is it cranking OK?

Yes turning over OK, was wondering if I may have connected the pipes at the fuel sender the wrong way round one is larger than the other, which one is the return to tank? Also think it may be the lift pump has just packed in

I got it sorted, the throttle spindle wasn't attached to its mating part in the injection pump properly, wagon now running fine. Thank s for the help.

Hi can anyone help just bought discovery 2 tdi 5 o4 plate won’t start until the diesel fuel pump has stopped approx 30 seconds then starts ????????. Thanks

Glad to hear it, I'm guessing 300tdi discos are getting a bit thin on the ground now a day's
