300tdi Difficult Starting

Hi guys,

Recently my 300tdi has really struggled to start. It takes about 16 turns before it catches, followed by a tonne of black/grey smoke. If I then drive to the end of the road and kill the engine and start it again immediately, it starts fine with no issues.

Could it be a bad battery that didn't turn the engine fast enough?

Anyone had similar problems?

Mine was acting the same, only had trouble starting in the morning, but ran fine the rest of the day.

It turned out to be perished injector leak off pipes allowing air into the system. Fuel system was basically priming every morning.

I have the same problem have to bump mine everymorning but I think I might have a glow plug out

I would have thought more like all of em out!

Has this topic ever been covered before I wonder.
