I have developed a new dilema to deal with. A few days ago i noticed when you turn it on the 1st and 2nd time it would cut out after about 2 seconds of running. 3rd time always started and ran ok! It didnt do it all the time but yesterday became more frequent.

Now on my way to work this morning i was driving along and found a major loss of power and it just started cutting out as if it was out of fuel (which it isnt ) then would kick back to life for a sencond then out again and just slowly die or run at about 2-300 rpm. When it died on one of the occasions i started it back up and it was spluttering but gave it a rev and it kinda came back to life again and then would just randomly get rough again.

It didnt seem to matter if i was on flat or going up hill. Any one had this problem and know what it might be before i start poking about? i did a search and found lift pump seems to be an issue on these so ill give that a change. Fuel filter i only changed about 600 miles ago

Loosing my rag with my landy atm seems to be one thing after another i only finished rebuilding the front axle 2 weeks ago after it sh!t itself!

any help much appreciated :D

Would defo go for lift pump first and check your leak off pipes as sounds like fuel starvation also sediment filter if it has one can cause problems

lift pump, and check the pickup pipe isn't blocked in the tank.
just cos you changed the filter 600 miles ago, dont assume its ok, I've seen them collapse internally before.
No sediment filter on defenders.

+1 on the stop solenoid. had a similar problem with my 2.5D and it turned out to be a dodgy connection to the stop solenoid allowing it to close intermittently.

Check the connection to the lug, and the condition of the wire.

Try temporarily bypassing your lift pump, if it drives better, there's your problem.

You'll probably have a shortage of top end power like this, and it might not like going up hills or starting from cold though.

Lift pumps cheap and easy to replace.

To check the stop solenoid wiring disconnect the plug and put a new temporary 12v try that if not bypass the fuel system most probably a leaky pipe or lift pump!
But definitely sounds fuel related!

I have this too but only if it's left to idle for a while, or turned off when hot then started straight away, it chugs and gives white smoke, only way to fix it is turn it off for 5 mins and wait lol
I've tried forcing it to keep going but eventually it cuts out
Any ideas?

White smoke, so sounds like air getting in. Leak offs and lift pump would be good place to start.
