300tdi crank case

I went offroading this weekend with wading plugs in. When I got home I removed them. Tiny bit of oil from bell housing, but when I removed the crank case wading plug loads of hot dirty water poured out which obviously worried me. Where do I start?

I think I mean timing belt cover

It shouldn't be able to get in there with the plug in asking as gasket is all ok and ac tensioner or breather has sealed gasket behind it. Will make sure mine come out after I go offroad next time for sure now
