Got a strange 'grumbling' sound coming from the engine, it was doing it all the time until I found a split in the top intercooler hose. I replaced it (did an EGR removal at the same time) and most of the time it's running quietly, just sometimes (pulling away from standstill usually) it's 'grumbling' at me....... Cleaned the intercooler out, all the pipes are ok, new fuel & air filter, sedimenter clean............. any ideas? Was going to have a look at the boost pipe from the turbo to the fuel pump but it was getting dark (wish I had a garage...... )Not really a problem, just an annoyance.

Also suffering with battery drain overnight, the alternator's charging nicely, the battery's good. Whilst poking about I followed the wiring from the alternator and found a relay with some diy crimp connectors wired in & insulating tape over the lot of it WTF? Don't know enough about electrickery to go pulling it about, but what has happened here any why????

While we're on the subject of sparks, I've noticed the fuse for the central locking is missing - but the central locking still works...............

I HATE ELECTRICITY!!!!! :(

dude i have same prob of battery overnight, charge , all good, next day flat, tested with volt meter and alternator is fin, water level and electrolites are fine also in the battery!!............ahhh someone answer please lol.......maybe earthing out somwhere?????

The only real way to check for battery drain is to disconnect the battery positive lead and measure what current is flowing between the battery +ve post and the positive lead you have just taken off(multimeter on AMP range)-make sure nothing is left switched on(note radio code before you do this). With just the alarm only on,the current flow should be the order of mA-any higher you have a short somewhere-sometimes the alternator diodes can go leaky-try removing the big power cable off the alternator and repeat test.

Mine did this exactly, once I traced it out, founs that a relay had had a soaking in the engine bay and it was shorting the battery through water to earth

Get an ammeter and start tracing, battery +ve lead off and ammeter in, check reading then start disconnecting items and fuses until the reading drops, thats the short culprit

One thing to check after cold weather is the battery holding a charge

check voltage across battery at night, leave battery disconnected and put it to bed, try it again in the morn, should be same voltage, or near as damn it, as night before if not battery f@#&ed
