The engine doesn't no, unless you have a EDC engine which was fitted to the auto Discos. Even then it was really just a mechanical pump with some information gathering abilities to "tweak" the injection to suit temp etc.

300tdi Discos had a body control unit, don't think the defender had anything.

yes and no, some do, but not many defenders, all auto discos do.
mainly emmisions management, its not a full ECU.
look for a wire to the first injector.

other 300s may or may not have an EGR valve, then then have a small bit of electrickery to work the EGR, but most remove this anyway

picture??

like I said check the first injector, no wire, no EDC, if you do have EDC there is a diagnostic plug under the centre seat IIRC.

it is definatly a 300tdi engine, and was originally, isnt it...

The 300tdi Defender did had some plugs under the middle seat, it was the EGR ECU. Basically it worked out where the throttle was and using vacuum would open and close it. If it all fell off nothing bad would happen.

There also needs to be a socket for reprogramming the alarm key fobs etc. if fitted.

Original 300tdi.

First injector would be the one closest to the bulkhead or the radiator?

Thanks.
