Hello everyone. I have posted thi already on the introduce yourself section-not too sure how to work this site. Anyway my speedo has packed up and I have replaced the instrument panel(although used with similar mileage) and speedo sensor and I have belled wiring through from an autodata diagram and everything seems in order but still no speedo. I work as a diagnostic and electrical technician but on European cars so I should be able to sort this but I can only put it down to another dodgy inst panel? Has anyone had problems with speedo's:confused:

Hi Mat
Welcome to the forum, I love it.

Firstly I guess as it's your job that you have already checked the connectors on the sensor and all the way to the speedo.
Take out the transducer on the gearbox and see if it has been rounded off as it should be square and take drive from the case.
If it is ok and I know you have changed the speedo take it out and check for dry joints.

Give this a go and see how you get on.

Normal the use of electronics in hot oily wet places tends to be the where they fail, checkout the speedo transducer in the gearbox, my experience shows the panel rarely gives trouble nice and dry (well from a landy POV).

Hi Chaps
Thanks very much for getting back. All sounds common sense. I have checked to see if transducer is being driven and the drive looks nice and square. The gearbox is def producing turning force to sensor drive and to cap it all I've tried turning sensor with electric drill and still no result. The three wires on sensor are live, neutral and trigger to speedo and all seem ok. The same applies at the panel end apart from a speedo 'out' which feeds the cruise control. Now then, the cruise control was a bit int in operation and I wonder if a computer fault could cause the speedo to stop working. Maybe I should try disconnecting this wire? Any thoughts?
