4mm of play in turbo shaft :eek: yes i would say thats well and truely fooked, be very wary cos if the oil seal on the compesor side fails the engine can run on its own oil and that will very likely be the end of your engine aswell.
 
hi thanks for your advice, could that make it run like **** and sound ****ty too as it just dosent seem right at the min i think its all down to the turbo ........ wish it was a 200 tdi i never had any probs with the 3 of those iv had before !!!!!!!!!!!

Well it certainaly aint gonna help mate, black smoke on excelleration is quite normal but could be worse cos turbo not boosting properly, the noise may well be the turbo blades rubbing on the housing.
Ide get it sorted asap before you damage the engine.
