300 Tdi Intercooler Upgrade

Hi all, this is my first post and I am just at the arse end of my first month of Land Rover ownership so go easy on me!!
I have a (very) late Discovery 300 Tdi, registered in Japan sept 99 and UK 06 (V). It is auto, aircon and I have blanked the EGR. I have been trying to research the most cost efficient intercooler upgrade. I am quite happy to get my hands dirty although tooling can sometimes be an issue.
I do not really want to shell out £300+ as there are so many other things I want to do to the vehicle but I have read that people have purchased second hand units from other vehicles (Saab and Toyota). Does anyone have knowledge of this? Is it worth the hassle or should I just put my hand in my pocket slightly deeper?!

Hi, firstly thats a lovely looking Disco!

Theres normally a choice of two, you can go for a side mount which replaces the original but or is slightly deeper or you can go for a full width which fills the front grille. I have the latter on mine and it makes a hell of a difference to drive, I dont the turbo aswell and it flies along now.

Mine come from Allisport, direct fit and comes with all the hoses and fittings needed.

I havent looked at Allsport but I will when I get 5min. I am only 15 miles from York so would probably use Bell Autos if I decide to splash out! Direct fit on the full width unit? Does that mean there was little or no modifications req to get it in? I would be competent to fit I reckon but I think the fuel and turbo adjustments are best done by someone who wont destroy the engine!

Yeah the full width fitted straight into my non AC 300TDi.....Alisport did my boost and pump mods for me when they fitted the T28 hybrid turbo to it.

Alisport dont list the Disco 300TDi intercooler of any type on their website so it might be worth giving them a call, same with BAS aswell seeing as theyre local to you.

used a disco td5 intercooler + rad..cheaper and works very well

Worth bearing in mind that if you have aircon and an auto the normal full width intercoolers wont fit but both alisport and Allard do a full width intercooler to fit in front of aircon models but there is a reasonable amount of modding to be done

Also I suspect you have the "fly by wire" pump which needs to be rechipped to get more power, you cant adjust it manually
