Would any of you chaps have a bit of an opinion on what sort of MPG I ought to expect from a 1996 300 TDI Disco (Auto) with 125k miles.

I have to say I am a bit surprised to find that my old 3.5 Petrol Classic Rangey I sold, wasn't perhaps as thristy as I thought.

I'm not getting much out of this Disco and I'm wondering if the fact that it's an Auto is making a bad problem, worse?

What do you reckon fellas?

manuals do about 23-26 but auto's are always worse no matter what the vehicle;)

I sold a 300tdi ES auto last year and it was returning around 19 mpg on average... not as good as the manual i'm sure.

Well it's sounding about right then, gotta say I wasn't prepared for that.

I have 300Tdi Auto 1997 with 65k on the clock. it returns about 320 to the tankfull urban and 26ish on a long run. don't quite know the MPG but may be around 22-24 ish down hill with wind at the rear? However with all the armour on it it is .5 tonne heavier?

I should have chance to get a fairly accurate figure next week. I do around 400 miles a week to work and back, same journey, same route...ZZZZzzzzzzzz so after this week i will gauge it.

Must admit never bought a car for the fuel issue, so never bothered to measure it.

something must be wrong with mine then,as its currently sitting with 512 miles on the trip meter and a quarter of a tank left to go,152k on the clock,
it must be the way you drive it,foot on the floor and it won't do more than 20 mpg, these are plodders not hot hatches,so plod along don't thrash it sod everyone behind you.
i don't take the revs above 2.5k which = about 70 mph but usualy its 60 mph,
cheers

well I joined yesterday not today and I have read many previous postings. Yes you did seem helpful to those who you chose to be but with some me as a newbie youve bee fooking awful! Nice to chat mate but too much testosterone in hear for me mate! As for bragging I don't know where you got that from as I have answered all postings honstly. My fuel consumption was truthful, my experiences are also truthful, so what exactly is it I have said that has got you all fired up?

yella your very rude stop telling things like they are not his fault he ant got a life
