I can sit there for 10 mins while defosting then set off and it will still cut out.Its had new glow plugs?

my initial guess is you've got an air leak in the fuel system.
it also helps with online diagnostics if you give as much information as you can first time round!

one thing mine has done last few days quite simular cutting out when i came to lights or like you said changing from first to second or second to therd i diagnosed it to be a bad connection on the teminal to the stop solinoid when i was changing gear the engine movment coursed the bad conection so the engine would cut out 2 min job new terminal and been fine ever since
