and its still dropping mud everywhere. I have noticed while cleaning it I've bent an oil cooler behind the bumper grill. can anyboy tell me what its for? is it the gearbox oil cooler? its a 2.5 DSE Auto

Yep The cooler is for the Auto Gearbox Oil - Hence no fog Lights on the Auto Diesels.
On A Maual the cooler is smaller and built into the botton of the radiator which has a thicker core to cope.
 
On a P38 auto, under bonnet in front of cooling radiator the top cooler is engine oil, the one below it is auto transmission fluid, diesels have an inter cooler mounted in one of the fog lamp holes, n/s i think?, so usually don't have fog lamps although this not always the case as previous poster mentioned!
I have heard of them being changed for larger units and relocated.
