I have a '51 Soft Back and have just obtained a hard Back. How easy is it to fit and do I need to replace the seal on the car - the "new" top comes with a rubber seal fitted. I can not find anything explaining the pitfalls on fitting one of these.

Would it not have been better to find out about this before buying the hardtop. For what it's worth, I believe it's been asked before & the answer given is that it's usualy a fairly simple swap.
Could be worth trying a search.

I was given the top by another kind GSD owner - tried a search but did not say if only the rubber on the top was used. Need the top to keep the dogs dry.

The soft top doesn't have a rubber seal it sort of threads on.

Just take the soft topoff carefully and it'll allbecome clear.

I think it tells you how in the manual else look at rave

As above, just remove all soft top parts, including two rear clamps.

Hard top just slots in, line up top catches first then position the two bayonet fittings over the holes and drop into place. tighten clamps

Can be done single handed, but easier with two people.

I have split my hardtop into 3 sections - flat pack hard top!
