Hi

Before you all start shouting I've searched on 3A but not found the answer to my prob so here goes.

TD4 2001, 3 amigoes lights on.

Sometimes braking hard then re starting the car lets me engage HDC (green light) on. Then when driving off the 3 lights go off.

Leave car parked and whilst its turned off before starting the 3 lights come back on again.

I have checked the wiring on the brake light switch, two pins are perm connected together, the outer 2 pins contact on applying brakes - brake lights come on.

Now I cannot get the darn lights to go out at all. I am contemplating a new brake light switch but may just decide to book in to a good independant for diagnosis as its driving me insane. I could understand a fault occuring whilst driving but when parked up.....!!!

any ideas? (also checked the HDC swich and wiring)

The switch you need to look at is the one that operates the brake lights not the Hall effect sensor. It also sends a signal to the ABS control unit and can be faulty even if the brake lights work normally.

Thanks for that - i'll be on the phone to dealers tuesday to get one - its worth a try although on a multimeter it seems to work ok but who knows what it does when plugged in.

Whats the other sensor for anyway? haynes says cruise control but i dont have that

Thanks for that - at least I don't have cruise control to worry about!

Been to the main stealers for the part and original part XKB000010 has been superseeded by a new switch and cable harness, parts XKB500120 and YMQ503280.

Will be fitting tonight so fingers x'd!!!

(Photos of new bits to follow)

as promised new switch and lead...

btw, the switch has to be 'set'. After fitting, hold the pedal down and pull out the switch plunger, then release the pedal to set the switch......
