Hi,

Hopefully a quick question. Can you put a gearbox from a 3.9 petrol into a 300tdi. Specifically 4HP22 (non electronic).

Or is something different due to operating revs/rpm?

Thank you.

apart from bell housing which can be swapped youd need to swap the valve block as whilst it would work the gearing would be terrible ie changing up before the engine could manage

Thanks for the reply! That's really interesting! Didn't realise that's where the diesel and petrol 4HP22. I take it that the torque converter is the same?

t/c differs too iirc, apart from those they are identical boxes
Thanks, I had a conversion done but the gearbox was of unknown origin. It came with the medium sized torqie converter. Everything fitted fine. Medium torque converter makes me think 3.9 or larger petrol?

You have to rev the pants off of it to get it to go up a gear. Will do the first 3 at a struggle but the 4th never happens.

Thanks for your help. I will see if I can find a 300tdi 4hp22 valve block.

1 other thing. Is the lt230 transfer box different for petrol and diesel? Just thinking of how it turns down the engine RPM to road speed.

Not sure how different a petrol and diesel RPM is at cruising speed?
