Hi

Ive just bought a 3.5 v8 to convert my 90, and i want to get it running before i strip down the 90. The only part im not sure about is the fuel set up on the carbs, ive got two SU Carbs. So if anyone can tell me how to set them up, or show me a picture or two of some set up ones it would help me a lot

Thanks

Peter

Could you define 'Fuel Setup' please?

To answer the question we need a bit more information. Are you asking about mechanical fitting, jet sizes, how to link up the carbs?

Peter

Hi sorry about the vagueness, i need help with the breather pipes mainly, there are two outlets with rubber 90 degree joints on them, what do these attach to? is it the air box? or are the just breather pipes?

Peter

If they come off the rocker covers, then they will be breathers, going to the airbox normally. If you have a 'bitsa' then you'll need to fabricate something so that the fumes from the engine go into the inlet side, usually before the throttle valve, but they can go into the pipe from the air cleaner if more convenient.

i have a main one comming off the rocker cover on one side, but these two are on the SU carbs i think they use the pressure of the air box to draw fuel from the float bowl into the main chamber?

Can you get a picture of the layout, might help everyone sort out the problem?

There's no pressure in the central airbox/plenum chamber, only a small vacuum when you open the throttle. The fuel is drawn into the engine via that vacuum operating on the SU pistons which raises them and pulls the main jet needle up at the same time.

The breather pipes are a separate issue.

The big pipes stuck in the side of the SU are crank case breathers, they can be discarded and the pipe sticking out the carb sealed off and the rubber pipes stuck in a tin or summat but you will have to compensate a litle by adjusting the mixture.
