indeed jai, the only single carb I have seen that wont play up ofroad is the holly truck avenger which is built for this but its several hundred pounds and you then have to buy the fanimould to fit it too which is sevral more, before you know it the budget is blown

I have stuck with SU and they have been good

All too often you get somEone who Fit these bling carbs manifolds etc hardly ever rolling roaded or setup properly when they get to te rough stuff look at my 300 bhp the v8 don't it sound nice!! cough splutter almost dying bugger all power at the nearest decent climb or side slope! Or a classic is i fitted a piper cam and its great loadsa power. When you ask what can they haven't got a clue and it's usually a fast road cam which needs to be revving at 5k before it will pull owt because it's the one with the biggest quoted bhp gain on real steel!!

Another classic is Rhodes lifters great nice and the high pressure oil
Pump!!!!!! Doh!!!!!! Very funny when the motor gets ****ed all over by a 2.25lr petrol with more low end grunt!!! Or the guy has to rev the tits off it and slip the cluth just to pull away up hill

I've never seen this - I feel like I'm missing out

I would fit something on to that intake pipe to draw cold air in instead of hot straight from the engine and radiator.

Should give you a few more horses for almost nowt.:)

good headers, tune up the su carbs and a cold air intake. electronic igntion like lumention if its still on points and maybe some nice magnecore leads.

mine seems a lot more pokey with those upgrades, well for such an old car anyway. I am building a hi comp sd1 style engine to go in it in the end for about 190 bhp on carbs

like that :p

I've been down the semi-track cam route on a Cobra that I've built - I agree entirely that cam selection is probably one of the most important parts of any engine build. It's OK on road but is a b*gger idling and hot starting.

On the RV8 I've gone for a moderate cam designed for use with automatic gearboxes (comp cams). Apparently in a non-automatic gearbox scenario that gives a lot more low end torque which should be OK.

I didn't know about the off roading issue with angles - I'll have to see how that goes when its on the road. Reality in this one though is that I suspect I'm going to be doing very little off roading. Will sound good though!!

I still think the other issues will help.
