The garage has adjusted the timing and I will see how it drives over the next couple of weeks.
I have got the original distributor back and, as Pete suggested, have contacted the Distributor Doctor by email.
I asked the garage about the new distributor they fitted and was told that it is one they use for all RR of the period and that they have never had any problems with them.

I wonder what spec. it is then, seeing as there were different advance curves for the various model years. Having said that though a slight variation in spec. shouldn't stop the motor from running satisfactorily.

Not sure he'll be able to help, website states his products suit vehicles up to the late 'seventies.
LR's EFI units didn't become available until the mid 'eighties.
Good luck though.

I wonder the came but he has said that he can do it for £225 = VAT.

I am wondering whether it would be worthwhile trying to find a garage which specialise in Rover V8's who could check it over. Can anyone recommend one as close as possible to the London/Essex border?
