Newbie here looking for some extra help. I like buying mot failures now and then and putting them back on the road. Over last few weeks I fancied a freelander 1, so set about looking for the right one.
Eventually found a 1999 XEI 1.8 with only 77k on the clock and got it for £250. There was a few issues with it but didn't mind as I like the challenge and enjoy it as a hobby.
Anyway...when I got it, there was only the hill descent light on so started looking at this sight and (probably like everybody else) learned the delightful 3 amigos. (Anybody known the origins of this phrase??!!).
I quickly pulled the dashboard apart and found the previous owner had removed some bulbs so popped new ones in and low and behold, I had 3 lights on permanently. (The green light came on for a few seconds at the pre-start but then went out.)
Next stop was to check the hill descent switch under the rubber gear knob cover and got really excited to see the wires had bee pulled out. I thought I was on a winner and was just bout to re connect them when my luck ran out. I accidently touched the wires to the small a bit of metal trim around the cigarette lighter, causing a couple of small sparks!!! Disaster....until I looked at my dashboard and seen that the TC and hill descent lights were no longer lit. The ABS remains lit though. I thought I'd maybe blown a fuse or the bulbs in the dash but there fine. Even when I turn the electrics on now I don't get the green or amber light for hill descent or TC. The ABS light comes on and stays on.
Apologies for the never ending story, but does anybody have any ideas what I've done??
All the other electrics appear to be working, i.e windows, mirrors.
Also, I'm wondering if that icarsoft diagnostic for sale on fleabay is anygood? For around £90 would it identify any problems for my ABS light, as apposed to paying a garage £40-50 for same result. Better still, anybody in the Dundee area who could check?
