Disco 1 2TH GEARbox THRUST WASHER

Hi guys
I need to change my clutch.
And I notice it's very difficult to change gear from 1st to 2nd or 3rd to 2nd. Ashcroft TRANSMISSIONS Says " A common fault with these boxes is a thrust washer in the 1 – 2 synchro assembly splitting in half and blocking movement. Rebuild the gearbox and replace both thrust washers in the 1 – 2 assembly."

So my question is. to replace those washers, do I need to take out the whole gearbox and put it out on pieces? What will be the easiest way to change the clutch and the washers thanks!

those washers are only fitted to h suffix boxes, and are only for 1st and 2nd not 3rd and box needs fully stripping as does the mainshaft

Thanks James!. Best procedure is to take out the gear box change the clutch and basically reconstruction of the gear
