i know its an ugly looking link but it's a pretty car.

p.s. apologies if an ad shouldn't appear in this section but it's all about the drool factor. i'm not connected to seller but if i had the dough it would already be gone........

unfortunately SpudH, the person who posted the link to it on a local aussie RR forum, was asking for advice as to whether he should buy this one as a base for a bush basher to be hacked and raised etc. that would be such a shame. i suggested to him that for what this car should be worth in the right market he could buy several late 80's four doors and bastardize away to his heart's content. again i reiterate i have no involvement but what would something like this fetch in the uk? i've read good, original 2dr's are becoming rarer than a rocking horse's proverbial output and hence pulling good money.
it's location, canberra, is famed for turning up very gently used cars. i know a bloke who bought a series 1 XJ12 jag from there that genuinely was the mythical 'one careful lady owner' vehicle. as fuel prices skyrocket to =nearly 80p a litre in australia ( :D i can hear you all howling from here!) more of these gems will appear out of wealthy aussie suburbs.
my own '88RRC Highline was found in an exclusive sydney bayside address for peanuts, =£900. that is almost exactly a fortieth of it's brand new price 20 years ago. it has easily got 10 years life left in it.
the latest episode of top gear shown here had the thoroughly enjoyable piece where they pilloried BLMC's legacy. if only they had come shopping down here the story might have been so much different. i saw an old boy yesterday in a triumph 2000 that the makers of life on mars etc. would die for. it even still had the hub caps with the globes on. even where the 40 year old paint had faded back to a barely primed surface there was no rust on it. probably worth all of a tank full of petrol.
even better is my home state's vehicle registration process. one inspection when you buy the car and put it in your name. no smog test, just brakes'n'tyres, lights'n'horn etc. then that's it for as long as you own the vehicle. unless a cop catches you with literally bits hanging off and dragging down the road behind you nobody ever looks at it again. 3rd party insurance is even included in your =£250 annual roadtax.
ah, australia, ya' gotta' luv it mate.
