Can any1 tell me what the battery sign with 24v is for On the dashboard? Could I use a 24v battery on my defender?

Well I have bourt a winch for my defender and I bourt a 24 volt 1 by mistake, what's the best way to wire this up? Buy a new battery or a converter or would 2 12v do the trick? What's best??

Get 2 new 12V heavy duty batteries, link them in series and fit a split charger so that you can charge your service (starter motor and running lectrics) battery at the same time or separately from the winch batteries, which would be wired in parallel to it via the switch.

Simple, as we do that on the boats all the time.

If it is an ex military 24v FFR land rover then there should be a radio battery box in the rear, charged from a 24V radio battery alternator that is on the upper left hand of the engine if viewed from the front of the vehicle. If that is what you have, run the winch from the FFR batteries in the rear (2 x 12V batteries joined in series). It all depends on the Spec of your land rover, sometimes a picture or two could help to see what you have or what you are missing.
