Is it a hassle to convert from 24 volts to 12? The reason that I am asking the question is that I have assumed that if a Perkins prima is put into a lightweight, then the electrics would have to be 12 volt and I have assumed that you can't have 12 volt engine electrics and 24 volt for the rest. Any advice? Keep it simple, electrics and I are only vaguely aware of each other as you can probably tell by the question.

Just thought; Might be worth while getting a 24v->12V DC/DC transformer (Truck accessory shop) to give you a 12v circuit.
This may be useful if you are keeping engine solenoid shut off, and to run any other 12v accessories from - may be worth getting a couple of 24v relays and making up a contact block so you have a 12v Constant live feed and a 12v ignition switched live feed.
And I'm just wondering about any senders on the prima block for oil pressure or water temp etc - probably have to try and get 24v equivilents, if you still want them to send to guages. Oil pressure warning, is just a lamp, probably get away with just changing the one bulb there.

Sorry - it's not so simple when you start to thing about it, is it?!

It ain't simple is right. The lightweight's going onto eBay shortly. I wish I had more space and more money because it is a lovely car. One of the last lightweights made, original - like really, really original, got a fantastic feel. Anyway, I've bought my lottery ticket and if it comes up, she stays!

Too bad you are letting/have let it go.

Just for the record, mine is a 24V FFR fitted with 12V ignition system via drop down convertor. Can provide pics for the needy, but no no understando electrcos.

mine also a 24v ffr 109 but with a perkins4203 fitted thats on a 12v circuit using a dropper system fited by it,s previous owner i think it is homemade but it wors fine
